Welcome to my world of painting and creating...
... where memories, thoughts, and the world around me come together and guide my brush ...
the latest ...
The crabapple tree in my front garden keeps its beautiful, red berries all winter long, which turn into an enticing treat for birds that come back in the spring or make a quick stopover on their way further north. Seemingly overnight, the grackles, starlings, and robins have appeared, along with a couple clumsy young squirrels from the nest nearby. No doubt the cedar waxwings and other rare birds are on their way, too, and I'd be as lucky as a leprechaun on St. Paddy's Day if I were to catch sight of any of them stopping in for a quick treat.
Amidst the upheavals that the pandemic year brought to the world, Nature has marched on as stoically as a prayer. The transition from sleeping winter to waking spring is a favourite of mine, because it is always full of sneak peeks, glistening pops of colour, and the promise of all that is fresh and alive. Inspired by (and eagerly awaiting) this special time of year, I have painted the Kiss of Spring Set, as a tribute to the gifts of life found in smaller packages, surprises, and fleeting moments.
Likewise, some favourite art shows and exhibits are coming back. While many had to be cancelled or postponed last year because of the pandemic, several of this year's regular events will be converted to online shows or auctions, specifically this year's Dundas Valley School of Art Auction (50th year) and the annual Pelham Art Festival. Take a peek at these interesting options in Exhibits and Shows for acquiring original artwork without having to leave the comfort of your home.
Or, consider taking a trip to Seaway Mall in Welland, Ontario, where you will find the VAW Gallery Shop , open Monday to Saturday. A selection of my work, along with 17 other artists, is on display in this bright, comfortable space. Plus, if you are in the area of west Hamilton, stop in to McMaster Innovation Park to see the Art in the Workplace Exhibit #32 of over 200 paintings and photography hanging in their enormous, bright atrium. My large painting, A Night in Bordeaux, is in the front area of the atrium, close to the elevators.
Lately, Nature is reminding us that the world is still turning, and that there is the promise of new life, even when winter can be tough. Have a safe and healthy return to living, and remember that there will always be art to keep us smiling.
